Help is here ...for the endless snackers and always starving kids...

Midterm is almost upon us and with that comes the joy of having our little darlings at home for the week (unless you’ve been clever and got them booked into camps or creche!).Kids at home equals endless rounds of meals and snacks.

But help is at hand - here are some quick and easy ideas for snacks and lunches for the kids which you can serve in the week ahead or anytime…

Easy snacks for kids

  • natural yoghurt, fruit and seeds (toast your seeds for extra ooompf).

  • cubes of cheese, cucumber and oatcakes

  • wholemeal toast with peanut butter and blueberries

  • banana slices spread with peanut butter and choc chips

  • apple slices dipped in cream cheese mixed with vanilla essence

  • veggies and meats with a dip

  • leftover anything …!

  • cereal - add some fruit and nuts for an extra boost of nutrition

  • 3 ingredient cookies - oats, mashed banana and walnuts chopped

  • smoothie

  • hard boiled egg and apple slices

Quick and simple lunches for kids

  • pizza bagels - smear tomato sauce on a bagel half, top with whatever and cheese. Grill for 5 minutes

  • sandwiches - sure what else would you be having at lunch? Vary your fillings - here’s 35 different filling options so you’ll never be bored

  • beans on toast with a side of cheese and apple slices

  • omlette made with peas and cheese or whatever you fancy

  • French toast - not just for breakfast

  • picky lunch - cubes of cheese, hard boiled egg, meats, chopped veggies and fruits - again, whatever you have lying about - best served on a Pick Plate

  • soup - home made or quality shop bought one

  • quesadilla - pop a wrap on a dry pan - top with meat and veggies and cheese and top with another wrap and cook both sides for a couple of minutes. Serve with avocado

  • dinner leftovers (although my kids think this is cheating …not sure why?!)

  • pancakes - included some oats and grated carrot in the batter) and serve with loads of fruit and creme fraiche

  • chicken wings with veggies
